4 Common Phrases Used to Promote an Online Business and What They Really Mean
You’re excited about starting a home business online and now you’re looking around at the numerous opportunities available. So much hype, so many gurus, who or what are you supposed to believe? It can be overwhelming at times. The truth is, there are many good offers available. You’ll be successful if you indeed, do the work. Ok, but how can you be sure? Learning to read between the lines will help you make the right decision. Here are some common phrases you see in many offers and what they really mean.
1. Make $1000(or any amount) Overnight!
It’s possible some businesses can make a thousand dollars in a short time. The reality is, it takes a while to get to that point. The seller here neglects to tell you it took him 6 or 12 months to get to the point where he can make a
thousand dollars overnight. He forgets to tell you it took a while to build up a customer list, to research his market, to get the right product. Often the overnight successes are experienced marketers and business people who have been doing business for a long time. Sure, you can be one too. It just won’t happen overnight with his product.
2. Anyone Can Do This!
Maybe. An online business is stressful and requires a learning curve. Some people are able to go it alone and some aren’t. The most successful home business owners are motivated, persistent, patient, and enjoy what they’re doing, Does that describe you? Will you feel that way about selling dog bones to dog owners when you don’t even like dogs? Regardless of what the ad says, take the time to find what’s right for you and fits your needs.
3. Requires No Work!
What? If that was the case we would all sign up for this one, but then, who would be our customers? Seriously, if you think you can start a business without working, a home business is not for you. I admit that down the road parts of your business will be automated. Yes, with a website you can make money 24 hours a day, even while you sleep. It just doesn’t happen by itself. You can be handed all the tools, but you still have to take action and put in the time.
4. Get Started with No Money
Except of course, you have to buy the seller’s program. Here again, you must be careful. With the onset of blogs there’s no question you can start an online business with no money. A blog gives you free web hosting and there are many free tools you can use to operate your business. The downside of free is this. Your blog and business can get deleted at the whim of the web host. Many free online tools are severely limited in their scope. Going free means a lot of trial and error on your part to find the right tools that will work for your particular situation. Believe me when I tell you this will soak up an enormous amount of your time and patience. Why bother? Running a business is tough enough. Spend some money and get the right tools to make your job as easy as possible.
